Player Information Standards

Player Information Standards are set by the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation. They prescribe harm minimisation materials that must be displayed in gaming venues. Under the Gambling Regulations 2015 and the Gambling Regulations (Pre-Commitment) Regulations 2014, these materials must be displayed in all gaming venues, as well as the casino.

Updated Standards

The Minister issued updated Standards, which takes effect on 9 February 2024. Under the updated Standards, the prescribed materials that must be displayed are as follows:  

• Player information posters,
• responsible gambling signs,
• player information brochures, and
• pre-commitment information brochures.

Details on these prescribed harm minimisation materials are below.

What has changed under the updated Standards?

• Under the updated Standards, there is no longer a requirement to display A5 talkers in gaming venues.
• The updated Standards introduce new design requirements for posters, brochures and signs.
• Gaming venue operators can now display the A2 posters and signs electronically.

When do gaming venues need to comply by?

Gaming venues have until 11 June 2024 to ensure that all previous versions of the posters, brochures and signs displayed at their venue are replaced with the new design requirements.

How can my gaming venue request copies of the printed material?

The VGCCC will be mailing the new posters, brochures and signs to all venue operators to ensure they are able to comply with the new requirements by 11 June 2024. After this date, gaming venues can contact us with your stock requirements and venue details and we'll post them to you within 14 days. 

Player information posters – printed or electronically displayed

New versions - must be displayed from 11 June 2024

Gaming venues can start displaying the new player information posters from 9 February 2024 and must transition to the new version by 11 June 2024. Venues can still use the previous version till 10 June 2024.

Location and quantity

Player information posters must be displayed in the gaming machine area and must be clearly visible to someone sitting or standing in front of a gaming machine. If you have:

• 15 gaming machines or less in your venue - you must display one poster;

• more than 15 gaming machines in your venue – you must display at least one poster for every 15 gaming machines, and an additional poster for any extra gaming machines less than 15 in number.

You should display both the purple “YourPlay” poster and the blue “Gamblers Help” poster (previously, the green “YourPlay” poster and the blue “You’ve Got the Power” poster) evenly throughout the gaming area, as far as possible.

Electronic display

Under the updated Standards, you can choose to display the new versions of the posters electronically. This means you can display the posters in printed or electronic form, or a combination of both.

The same requirements above apply to the location and quantity of any digital posters displayed. The digital poster on the electronic display must also be:

• no smaller than A2 size (420 x 594mm) 

• displayed so that it is clearly visible 

• displayed in a size and manner appropriate for the electronic display, so that the colour, sizing and proportions of the digital poster are not distorted on the electronic display, and 

• displayed for a minimum of 60% share of the advertising on an electronic display. For example, in a one-minute display cycle, at least 36 seconds must be dedicated to the prescribed posters. 

​You may display the components of a digital poster (such as logos and text) in different formats, for example, a landscape or rolling display. However, you must obtain prior written approval of the amended format from us and the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Responsible gambling sign – printed or electronically displayed

New versions - must be displayed from 11 June 2024

Gaming venues can start displaying the new responsible gambling signs from 9 February 2024 and must transition to the new version by 11 June 2024. Venues can still use the previous version till 10 June 2024.

Location and quantity

Responsible gambling signs must be clearly visible to someone entering the gaming machine area. At least one sign must be displayed outside each entrance to the gaming machine area.

Electronic display

The new version of the responsible gambling sign may be displayed electronically under the updated Standards. This means you can display the sign in printed or electronic form, or a combination of both.

The same requirements above apply to the location and quantity of any digital signs displayed. The digital sign on the electronic display must also be:

• no smaller than A2 size (420 x 594mm)
• displayed so that it is clearly visible; 
• displayed in a size and manner appropriate for the electronic display, so that the colour, sizing and proportions of the digital sign is not distorted on the electronic display, and
• displayed for 100% share of the advertising on an electronic display.
   

Player information brochure – printed only

New versions - must be displayed from 11 June 2024

Gaming venues can start displaying the new player information brochure from 9 February 2024 and must transition to the new version by 11 June 2024. Venues can still use the previous version till 10 June 2024

Location and quantity

Player information brochures must be available at each cashier area in your venue. The total number of brochures available must also be equal to or greater than the number of gaming machines available at your venue.

Pre-commitment information brochures – printed only

Gaming venues can start displaying the new pre-commitment information brochures from 9 February 2024 and must transition by 11 June 2024. Venues can still use the previous version till 10 June 2024

Location and quantity

Pre-commitment information brochures must be available in your venue at:

• each cashier

• each player service point

• any other place where casual player cards are made available for patrons to collect, and

• any other place where documents regarding a loyalty scheme are made available for patrons to collect.

The total number of pre-commitment information brochures available must also be equal to or greater than the number of gaming machines available at your venue.
 

Other signage requirements
 

Casual Player Cards

Venues must also have the required number of casual player cards (green brochure) available. The requirements are: 

• the total number of casual player cards available is equal to or greater than the number of poker machines in your venue 
• at least 20 casual player cards are available at each player service point in the venue 
• ​at least 20 casual player cards are available at each cashier area in the venue. 

When someone requests a casual card, insert the encoded card in the front pocket of the green brochure before you give it to them

Commission rules

You must:

• have a set of Commission rules that apply to your venue available for patrons to inspect
• display a sign that tells people where they can inspect it.

This sign must be at least A4 size and be clear and legible:

• use black text on a white background.
• use the largest font size possible to fill the page, using the same size throughout the message.

Responsible gaming officer availability

You must have a notice displayed in a prominent place stating that a Responsible Gaming Officer is available for assistance at all times.

Venue licence

You must display a copy of the current venue gambling licence or notice of approved venue, either at the entrance to the poker machine area or adjacent to the cashier.

Underage patrons

You must:

• display this sign at each entrance or on the boundary of the poker machine area in your venue
• make sure at least one notice is clearly visible at all times to any person who may be about to enter the poker machine area.

This sign must be at least A4 size and be clear and legible:

• include the exact text: ‘A person under the age of 18 years must not for any reason enter or remain in the gaming machine area’.
• use black text on a white background.
• use the largest font size possible to fill the page, using the same size throughout the message.
