A poker machine (also known as gaming machine) is any device, whether:
- wholly mechanical
- partly mechanical, or
- electronically operated,
that is designed for the following reasons:
a) It can be used to play a game of chance, or a game of mixed chance and skill
b) As a result of making a bet on the machine, winnings may become payable.
This includes any machine declared a gaming machine under section 3.1.3 of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003 (the Act).
Gaming and monitoring are lawful when:
- gaming is conducted, and
- when gaming equipment is provided (in an approved venue or casino) in line with the Act.
