Pre-commitment
Precommitment empowers players to set time and loss limits and make informed decisions about their gambling. It is mandatory in Victoria for YourPlay to be available on all electronic poker machines.
Since 1 December 2015, pre-commitment is available on all Victorian poker machines. It lets people set limits and keep track of their gaming across the state.
The Victorian player account equipment technical standards set out the basic rules for:
- pre-commitment equipment, and
- the important technical requirements.
YourPlay is a voluntary pre-commitment system, introduced by the Victorian Government. It helps people monitor the amount of money and time they spend playing gaming machines.
YourPlay helps people who gamble to:
- set limits of time or money spent
- keep track of their poker machine play across Victoria.
Gaming venue staff must assist players of YourPlay under the requirements of the:
- Gambling Regulation Act 2003(opens in a new window) (the Act)
- Gambling Regulation (Pre-commitment and Loyalty Schemes) 2014(opens in a new window).
The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) undertakes periodic monitoring activities to ensure venue operators understand and comply with licence conditions. Venue operators are required to attest their compliance with:
- At least once each year, venue operators who offer a loyalty scheme must provide each active participant with a player activity statement.
- At least once each year, venue operators must send each participant in the scheme a notice informing them of their right to inform the provider to cease participating in the scheme (the Notice).
- Venue operators must remove a participant from the scheme if the participant informs the provider that they wish to cease participating in the scheme.
The below information is to be included in the Notice:
- the name and contact details of the loyalty scheme provider
- how the participant can opt out of the scheme
- how the participant’s tier status and benefits will be dealt with when they opt-out
- when the opt-out will take effect after the participant requests to opt-out.
Penalties will apply to venue operators who offer loyalty schemes and fail to include the prescribed information or fail to send out notices.
An annual attestation and declaration of compliance with the above is required to be submitted. If you have not received an email with an attestation, please contact the VGCCC.
