Restrictions may apply on certain public holidays.
Venue operators must ensure that they comply with different trading restrictions that may apply to some public holidays in Victoria, primarily Good Friday, Christmas Day and Anzac Day.
Venue Operators must consider conditions that apply to their liquor licence, as well as their gambling licence, when it comes to public holidays to comply with conditions that may impact on capacity to offer gaming on these days.
Good Friday
No additional requirements apply to a venue operator's licence for Good Friday under the Gambling Regulation Act 2003. However, restrictions that apply to a venue's liquor licence will impact on a venue operator's ability to offer gaming on the noted public holiday.
Christmas Day
For any restrictions that may affect trading hours on Christmas Day, licence holders should check the conditions on their liquor licence.
Anzac Day
No additional requirements apply to a venue operator’s licence for Anzac Day under the Gambling Regulation Act 2003. However, restrictions that apply to a venue’s liquor licence will impact on a venue operator’s ability to offer gaming on the noted public holiday.
Two-up
Two-up is a game where 2 coins are tossed in the air and punters bet on both landing on heads or tails.
The Gambling Regulation Act 2003 only permits the conduct of two-up games on ANZAC Day or during commemorative functions in the 7 days leading up to ANZAC Day, each year at any RSL club, sub-branch or any venue used by the RSL.
Ordinarily, the Victorian State Branch approves all RSL club and sub-branch applications to play two-up. This includes two-up games on ANZAC Day itself and commemorative functions 7 days prior to ANZAC Day.
Other ANZAC Day restrictions
There may be other restrictions that apply to your business. The Business Victoria website has information about operating on a restricted trading day.
