Trade promotion lotteries
Trade promotion lotteries exist to help promote a trade or business. The lotteries are free to enter, and they require people to:
- buy a product
- do certain things in order to take part.
The lotteries include activities or events, with prizes awarded that are determined by chance. This applies even if the event includes skill-based activities.
Entry fees cannot be charged. Expenses per entry (like the cost of a phone call, SMS, or postage) can't exceed $1, including GST.
Who can conduct one?
The following can conduct a trade promotion lottery:
- a business that sells a product or service
- a community or charitable organisation (declared by the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC))

Member's draws
A member's draw is considered a trade promotion lottery. It's usually conducted by clubs and involves drawing a member's number from a pool of numbers.
Terms and conditions should be available to all members at the location where lottery entry was made.
Conditions of entry
The following conditions apply for a member's draw:
- If the entry and draw happen on the same day, the member
must be present at the time of draw
- If a member enters the draw throughout the week,
the member doesn’t need to be present at the time of draw
