Electronic gaming machines in hotels and clubs no longer required to have hard meters

This requirement existed  in the Victorian Appendix of the Australian/New Zealand Gaming Machine National Standard 2016 (Vic appendix).

As required under the Gambling Regulation Act 2003, a notice of this amendment has been published in the Government Gazette, see: Government Gazette

Existing electronic gaming machines approved for use in hotels and clubs can continue to operate with hard meters, however if a manufacturer decides to remove existing hard meters from currently approved machines, this change will require re-approval by the Commission.

Although the change is not effective until June 2021, being 6 months after the gazettal, the Commission will consider any future application for an electronic gaming machine to be used in Victorian hotels and clubs having regard to either the existing or the amended Vic Appendix, noting that hard meters on gaming machines do not impact on the integrity of the game or electronic gaming machine.
