Responsible Gambling Officer requirements

We have detected numerous instances where Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO) requirements outlined in a venue’s Code of Conduct are not being met.

The main non-compliance issue reported by VGCCC inspectors is that an RGO is not always available within the gaming machine area.

If the rostered RGO needs to step away from their duties, reasonable steps must be taken for another RGO to be in the gaming machine area.

The RGO must also:

  • have completed relevant Responsible Service of Gaming (RSG) training

  • ensure staff record responsible gambling interactions and interventions in the Responsible Gambling Register

  • observe customers for signs of gambling harm

  • help customers who display signs of gambling harm

  • provide advice to staff about gambling harm and how to respond to signs of gambling harm.

Our inspectors will continue to monitor venues and check compliance with their Code of Conduct, including RGO requirements.
