Victoria has strict rules for gambling advertising and the use of imagery and terms associated with gaming machines.
VGCCC inspectors identified a potential advertising breach on a billboard, which referenced ‘pokies’ and featured imagery similar to those found on gaming machines.
The Gambling Regulation Act 2003, says gambling advertising cannot:
- include any gaming machine related signage
- draw attention to the availability of gaming machines for gaming
- use terms or expressions that are associated with gaming machines.
We contacted the owner of the advertised product and the billboard company to alert them to the breach. These ads have now been removed from billboards and will not be used by the owner or advertising company in Victoria.
Contact VGCCC on 1300 599 759 or email contact@vgccc.vic.gov.au(opens in a new window) if you have any questions about gambling advertising obligations.
