Venue operators have asked for further information about the use of digital driver licences.
Digital driver licences are now available to all Victorian full licence holders via the myVicRoads and ServiceVic apps. A digital driver licence is an acceptable form of identification. Patrons may show their digital licence instead of a physical driver licence to verify their age or identity (ID).
The digital driver licence doesn’t replace physical driver licences, which will still be issued to all licensed drivers.
What about large winnings and cheques?
Venue operators are required to record a patron’s ID when a patron has a large win. A digital driver licence is an acceptable form of ID to verify a patron’s identity and create a cheque register record (i.e. enter required details into cheque register). Venue operators do not have to photocopy documents.
It is the venue operator's responsibility to ensure they are compliant with their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) obligations overseen by AUSTRAC. These obligations include documenting customer identification procedures in their AML/CTF Program and ensuring compliance with those procedures. Should you require further information about your AML/CTF program and obligations please contact AUSTRAC on 1300 021 037.
